Michael Fanning is a highly skilled craftsman and innately talented artist. His creative talent brought him to the attention of Waterford Crystal who invited him to join them in 1974. He progressed to Qualified Cutter and Master Cutter, a 10 year process. In 1986 he joined Waterford’s Design department, a prestigious promotion for only the very gifted.
He was completely at home here and could give rein to his wealth of ideas and inspiration to produce some of Waterford’s most popular patterns and trophies. Michael’s natural flair for contemporary design soon gained him the position of Design Manager for Waterford’s Marquis Brand.
With the closure of the Waterford Kilbarry plant in 2009 Michael set out to explore the potential for contemporary Irish Crystal Jewellery. Here in Waterford City where the world’s finest crystal is still made he hopes to carry on the heritage and romance of crystal making just as his predecessors have done for the last two centuries.
His new Irish Crystal Jewellery Brand is designed to meet modern lifestyles offering innovative crystal patterns with designs, ranging from contemporary to traditional, that reflect a modern sensibility. Each piece of crystal and silver is individually hand made in Waterford City Ireland. It combines the brilliant sparkling effect of Irish crystal, each piece is individually hand-cut by Michael and 925 sterling silver hallmarked in Dublin Castle Ireland. No two pieces of Irish Crystal Jewellery are the same, totally unique a new standard in jewellery and a new way to experience Irish Crystal.
Michael lives and works in Ballyrobin Ferrybank on the border of South Kilkenny and Waterford City. Living in Ireland he draws his inspiration for his new jewellery collection from Ireland’s breathtaking scenery and the beautiful countryside that surround him.
